Are you an educator looking for simple, new ways to enrich your classroom practise? Are you looking for a new way to use the resources and spaces available to you? Are you looking for ways to connect your students actively with their environment?
INSITES has developed the process of Placemaking Theatre and it has already been taken up by teachers in schools overseas as a method of encouraging students to visually explore and pay attention to where they are and to develop critical as well as personal and social skills.
During this CPD session in the newly renovated splendor of The Old Market, teachers will be led through a process which begins with a structured, active exploration and orientation of the building. Strategies are then demonstrated that encourage and a sensitivity to the environment, its messages, structure and arrangement. Finally, participants are then supported to adopt the role of lead artists creating work in response to the site and its content. The skills and approaches which are developed in this session are entirely transferable to other sites and can be adapted for use across the curriculum.
This is also a great way to introduce young people to creative writing and storytelling using the building as a storyteller! A must for any educator interested in studying and using spaces and places as an inspiration for learning.

INSITES is a new arts organisation that has developed Placemaking Theatre to connect people with places in their community. INSITES is delighted to be working at The Old Market. Together, we hope these sessions will encourage you to connect to The Old Market, to feel at home here and to be inspired by this wonderful arts space in our city.
Working with different groups of people in each session we will explore the building and create unique and exciting experiences which will bring it to life. Every participant will become a lead artist and develop skills and ideas in a fun and original way.
