Folk, Americana, Jazz and Country melodies are swelling to a lively, spirited height at a newly-formed Pick music night in Brighton and Hove.

But here, at TOM’s Bar Pick Nights, the music is made by anyone who wishes to play. Gathered together round a table (in leu of a roaring log fire), players create spontaneous melodies and songs, following whichever the direction the music happens to take. Violin, guitar, banjo and viola cases lie openly scattered as their owners participate in the music. Closing your eyes, you’d certainly be forgiven for imagining yourself huddled around a mountain campfire warding off wild, snowy winds.

TOM’s Bar extends the invitation to any and all string musicians who wish to take part in these regular Pick Nights. This is a relaxed, social gathering, with no requirements to book or arrange; just turn up and join in. Or for those who’d prefer to listen, these welcoming and friendly nights will be sure to entertain and inspire.

Part of The Old Market – Brighton and Hove’s most exciting new cultural venue – TOM’s Bar now hosts a number of regular and one-off events, from comedy to film screenings.

At TOM’s Bar Pick Music Nights, all are welcome to listen or to play. Join us – bringing with you either instruments or ears – on the third of February from eight o’clock, and fortnightly thereafter.
