PAST EVENT

John Grant joins forces with the dark analogue electro of Wrangler (Stephen Mallinder / Phil Winter / Benge) and following their debut album, Mr Dynamite, last year, they’re now gracing our stage with a new live show packed full of experimental pop and surreal funk.

Mr Dynamite, which was voted 2018 Album of the Year by Electronic Sound Magazine, was recorded in Cornwall with a lifetime’s collection of drum machines and synthesisers assembled by Benge and explored by every member of the band. There’s a real sense of freedom in the shackles-off grooves, channelling the early pioneering spirit of the Sugarhill Gang through wires and random electronic noise.

Grant has collaborated with artists including Kylie Minogue, Elbow, Richard Hawley and Tracey Thorn. Wrangler are no strangers to collaboration either, teaming up with the likes of LoneLady and Tom Rogerson, as well as remixing Primal Scream and Gazelle Twin. However, Creep Show is much more than the sum of its parts. It’s almost as if the four band members and their machinery are possessed by another force…

Support comes from Kincaid featuring Blancmange. This father and son team-up - Joe and Neil Arthur - released their debut single Big Fat Head on Moscoman’s Disco Halal imprint back in March. The track was picked up on by Pete Tong who played it on his Radio 1 show, along with plays on BBC 6 Music and a Number 2 place on Beatport’s charts. Kincaid has also remixed a series of recent Blancmange singles - What’s The Time?, Distant Storm, Not A Priority and I Smashed Your Phone (all taken from Blancmange’s last 2 albums - Unfurnished Rooms in 2017, and last year’s Wanderlust) and these new versions will form part of the duo’s live set, alongside Big Fat Headand some new material they’re currently writing together.
