#TOMTECH

A catalyst programme for artists that bridges the gap between traditional performance and new technology.

As technological development accelerates, we ask ourselves what our role as a venue will be in the coming years, and how audiences will want to enjoy the arts in the future. To answer this, we created #TOMtech.

We want to encourage both artists and audiences to embrace the latest developments in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR), Mixed Reality (MR), motion capture, 360-film and more. This programme allows ideas to be seeded and provides a space for those who want to play, take risks, re-invent and re-imagine what can be possible using new technology.

Our latest #TOMtech project

We’ve been asking ourselves, “How can we push the boundaries of live performance and make our events even more immersive?”

To answer this, we’ve created a brand-new Immersive event format in our space. Audiences will enjoy their favourite artists and performers, all whilst surrounded by 360º of breathtaking visuals.

Artists who have performed in this space to date include:

Fatboy Slim
Halina Rice
Phil Hartnoll (Orbital)
Elijah
and more!

We are always working to improve our space - keep an eye out for these immersive events in future and be a part of the evolution of live performance.

LABS PROGRAMME

Our LABs programme offers artists the opportunity to explore new tools, techniques and partnerships away from the pressures of production cycles. We tend to focus labs on emerging technology and how theatre makers can play a leading role as new platforms for cultural consumption develop.

Each lab has a slightly different format. Application is normally by open call and we aim to include artists from a diverse range of experiences, backgrounds, genres and scales.

In the past we have run labs on real-time motion capture; exploring 360 storytelling; using VR as a stage tool, training artists to program via games engines, multi-user immersive storytelling, and projection mapping in performance.

Keep an eye here for future opportunities!
