Exploring seven systems of the human body and the wonder of life via film - ANATOM is a journey through spellbinding film montages, soundscapes, with a vibrant, lively string quartet, performed by Modulus Quartet.
Anatom explores seven different systems of the human body across the human life cycle; to better understand the complex beauty, interdependent processes and symmetries that lie beneath our very own skin. Where we might have come from and where we might be going.
Inspired by the wonder of the human body: from cell duplication and the structure of the skeleton; a newborn’s first breath and the branching lungs; a child’s racing steps and our muscular movement; dramatic storms of adolescence and the needs for food and power; our deep felt emotions and the heart circulating blood; changing awareness as we age and the sensory landscape of the nervous system, and finally, beyond this world and the mysterious chemicals at work within the body.
Explored through seven dramatic and uplifting, contemporary-classical live string quartet performances, composed by Nicholas de Carlo and performed by Modulus Quartet, accompanied by immersive, moving images, films and sound design, the experience is crafted to be both mesmerising and multi-sensory.
‘The music is minimalist in the vein of Michael Nyman or Max Richter, but more harmonically adventurous…with pulsing rhythms, deftly layered textures’
★★★★ - The Arts Desk (on previous show Gagarin Quartets)
★★★★★ "Wonderful & unlike anything else I’ve experienced… an utterly captivating performance … mesmerising, thought-provoking & spiritually uplifting" - Ramsgate Festival of Sound (on previous show Gagarin Quartets)
